Reform Congregation Oheb Sholom members have come to expect a powerful experience each year at the High Holy Days. Services are led by Rabbi Brian Michelson and members of the congregation, and feature our student cantor with keyboard accompaniment. Child care is available for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur services.
The observance begins the Saturday night before Rosh HaShanah with S’lichot, which features an adult education program followed by a deeply moving late-night service that sets the mood for the upcoming holidays.
The congregation celebrates Rosh HaShanah with a festive evening service followed by a delightful reception hosted by the Sisterhood. The observance continues the next morning with a full service including Shofar blowing. In the afternoon, a special service is held for young children.
Oheb Sholom members conclude Rosh HaShanah as they gather by a local waterway in the late afternoon for a Tashlich service in which they symbolically cast away their sins.
The Yom Kippur observance begins with the evening Kol Nidrei service. Services continue the next morning and afternoon. There is a break in services during the early afternoon. At that time adults who wish to stay at synagogue may participate in a study session. A special service for young children is also held during the break in adult services. The Yizkor memorial service is one of the highlights of the services later in the day.
