Simchat Torah

simkhatorah

Simchat Torah is one of the most fun nights of the year at Reform Congregation Oheb Sholom. Our rabbi is fond of saying that it is one of the few occasions where children are encouraged to make noise in the sanctuary.

Simchat Torah arrives in the autumn at the conclusion of Sukkot and marks the moment when the congregation finishes the annual cycle of reading the Torah and begins it anew for the next year.

The holiday is celebrated with a service that features lots of dancing and a joyful parade around the sanctuary with the Torah scrolls in hand. It is a fun night, and a great time for families of all ages.

At Oheb Sholom, the Simchat Torah observance includes a Consecration service welcoming new students in first grade or older to the congregation’s religious school. It adds to the joy of the occasion.
